Proposed Deal- Approx. 6 hrs tutoring per week for free room/electricity/internet. Our place is in South Brisbane 4101, walking distance to SouthBank, UQ, QUT, City centre, Southbank rail stop, Mater bus, West End and many more interesting places.
*The What: There are two teenagers here who need your help to get organised and start getting academic results.
*What is on offer: A large, bright, fully furnished and air conditioned room with your own TV and fridge, in a prime location. As well as TV and Xbox, you will get access to Netflix, Stan and Disney plus, with high speed internet. Parking is only on-street. There is one bathroom to share and limited communal space, and the kitchen/washing is free for you to use. Electricity and linen supplied for you. Parents work full time and also run a business and not particularly good with STEM subjects.
*What is expected of you: The position of Academics Manager is results based, and subject to regular review. You must be competent particularly with STEM, & the curriculum for year 7 and year 9.
Your job is to be all over the children's study habits ( I dont expect them to study much longer than an hour per day in most circumstances). You'll have access to their online work portal. Teach them how to organise study , check their targets, explain difficult concepts and get them to follow through with their homework. Keep them on track and limit their use of ipad for entertainment purposes. Their academic success is your responsibility.
There is currently a LOT of room for improvement, so you must be patient but very firm and disciplined. You must spend at least 1 hour a day from Monday to Friday () working on homework with them, depending on what is due. Setup at the start of term may require a little more time.
About you: Confident, academic and the ability to inspire, yet not be overly friendly to the students. They do not need a buddy, and "hang out time" with them is not encouraged. English skills must be high quality, and the ability to constantly communicate with parents about the work status is also important. As long as the children are well on track, the rest of your time is yours. You must be a non smoker/pot/drug taker. Social drinker is fine. Also if you happen to play the harp, there is a beautiful one here for you to use. Many more perks of living in this part of the world too.
If this sounds like you please message me (or email ) with a page about you (name, age, picture, citizen/PR status etc), your circumstances, your history or results in academics or coaching/tutoring others and how you think you can turn around the academic lives of these two young individuals and be a successful candidate for Academics Manager. We can go from there. We will work on a trial basis to start with, but if you get great results this could be a long term arrangement.
